INDRAPRASTHAM

( the D in this name is pronounced like 'th' in 'brother', 'th' like 'th' in 'thing'.)

Indraprastham was the name of the capital city of Yudhishthira when he ruled his kingdom separately after they got their share from the undivided kingdom.

The Paandavas were about 35 when they started their ruling from there and they lived in that city for nearly 23 years until their losing their kingdom in the dice game to the Kouravas.

Many important incidents happened during the time the Paandavas lived there. Arjuna married Subhadra and begot a celebrated son Abhimanyu. Arjuna got the great bow Gaandeevam and Bheema the fierce mace from god Agni. Paandavas got a magnificient and enchanting hall from Maya which incised Duryodhana's heart leading him to plan for snatching his cousin's kingdom. Paandavas lead campaigns to the four corners of the country and performed the Raajasooya sacrifice proclaiming supremacy. Many strong opponents were defeated and killed by Paandavas. At last, they lost their wealth and left for the forests for an exile of 13 years.

After the war, Paandavas ruled from their original capital Hasthipuram . Before their renunciation , Paandavas rehabilitated Krishna's grandson Vajra at Indraprastham .
