HIMAALAYAAS

Himaalayas are the range of moutains on the northern border of India. With the highest peaks in the world, it stood as a defending wall to this great country for centuries.

The Indian mytholog gives a prominent place toHimaalayas. The presiding deity of the range of mountains is Himavaan. His daughter, Paarvathi or Uma is wife of Lord Shiva. The divine river Ganga came to the earth through this mountain by falling on it from the heaven. It was mentioned in the epics, puraanas and many literary works too.

In Puranas, the Himaalayas are described as divine territory. The abode of lord Shiva, the Kylaasa exists in this range . Many great sages lived in Himaalayas immursed in their penance. Even today, the Himaalayas are a peaceful place to live, despite the damage caused by the modern day culture.

"After praying to Naaraayana, Nara, Sarasvathi and Vyaasa, then one should read the Jayam."
