DUSSALA

( the D in this name is pronounced like 'th' in 'brother'. The 's' is pronounced like 's' in 'miss'. The L is pronounced like 'l' in 'luck'. But, some texts read the name as Dushshala. In that case of that spelling, both the 'SH's are pronounced like the one between s in 'son'and s in 'shut'. )

Dussalaa, was the daughter of Dhritharaashtra born after the hundred kouravas . She was married my the king of Sindhu country Jayadratha who was also known as Syndhava. Her husband was killed by Arjuna on the fourteenth day of the war. A few years after the war, when Arjuna reached the Sindhu province during his campaign in connection with their Asvamedha sacrifice, her son fell dead by hearing Arjuna's approach. She dropped her grandson on Arjuna's feet and begged for mercy. Arjuna, who by that time was not his own self due to pity and sorrow, granted the boy his father's lands.
