BALARAAMA

(The L in this name is pronounced like 'l' in 'leg'.)

Balaraama was the son of Vasudeva and Rohini . Revathi was his wife. He was the elder brother of Krishna . But he was not as cunning and mischievous as his brother. Mostly he was outspoken and wouldn't mind the persons when it came to speak his opinion. He was not that great diplomat too. He was always convinced by Krishna . His role in the Mahaabhaaratham got prominence for the following reasons.

He was elder brother of Krishna . He was considered as an incarnation of the divine serpent lord Shesha himself.

He was the teacher in mace fighting to Bheema and Duryodhana .

He once raided on Duryodhana himself to get even with him in a tussel over the marriage of the latter's daughter and his nephew (Krishna's son Saamba).

He did not involve in the war. In stead, he avoided it by going on a pilgrimage.

He returned at the moment when both his disciples were about to fight. When he felt Bheema tresspassed the rules of the fight,he plunged on him but was held back by Krishna

At the end, after learning that Krishna was about to quit this world, he too preceeded him.

He was a connoissure of the wine, strangely !

In any case, he was always seen playing a second fiddle to his younger brother.

Being true to his words is the merit we should adopt from him. His weakness lay in his inability to protest against his brother even when there was a cause to do so.
