Aadiparvaa is the first of 18 parva 's of the
Mahaabhaaratham .
In this parva , several episodes detail the previous births of many of the persons of the Mahaabhaaratham and the earlier part of the main story.
The word aadi means the first or the genesis. Hence the descriptive name given to the first
parva as Aadiparva .
"After praying to Naaraayana, Nara, Sarasvathi and Vyaasa, then one should recite the Jayam."
