VISHNU-SHATHANAAMAAVALI

( The meaning of the title is 'list of hundred names of Vishnu. )

Soon after his coronation as emperor, Yudhishthira thanked Krishna and praised his greatness heavily. On that occasion he eulogised Krishna as the another form of Vishnu and quoted several of his epithets, nearly a hundred. See chaoter 43 (number varies with the tradition od the text) of Shaanthiparva. This chapter looks to be an interpolation, however, we are not sure of this.

Yudhishthira praised Krishna like this.

'Krishna! We could regain our ancestral empire only due to your grace, policies, cleverness, strategies, wisdom and power. That makes me greatful to you forever. How can I thank you for that great help which no ordinary human can ever do for anyone. In fact, you are not a human at all. You only took a human form as a part of your sport of your conducting this vast universe with its several worlds. You are said to be the Supreme Being (Purusha = He that resides in every physical form). You are the lord of those that devote themselves to you. The learned people praise you and your greatness with many different names as they perceive you to be. I bow to you, the maker of the universe (Vishva=universe, Karma=maker), the essence of the universe (Vishva=universe, Aathma=essence), source of the universe (Vishva=universe, Sambhava= source), the Vishnu(Omnipresent), the Jishnu (Victorious), the Vykuntha ( He that resides at Vikuntha or Vykuntha) and the Purushoththama (Highest entity).'
