ULOOPI or ULOOCHI

Uloopi was one of Arjuna's four princopal wives. She was daughter of a serpent king of the underworld Paathaalam. She got a son named Iraavaan who fought gallantly for his father in the great war and was killed on the 12 th day by a demon Alambusa on the kouravas side.

She learnt that Ganga and the vasus were angry with Arjuna for his killng of Bheeshma, keeping Shikhandi as a guard and so cursed Arjuna that he would be klled in a war in a few years. She requested her father to find a remedy for this and he went to the vasus and prayed them to show a way out. They were pleased with his praying and allowed that Arjuna would be killed be by his own son Babhruvaahana and he would be soon revitalised by Uloopi, with the power of the divine gem in possession of the naagas in the Paathaalam.

When Arjuna went in guard of the sacrificial horse and reached Manipuram, his son Babhruvaahana came to honour him. But Arjuna chided his son for not fighting with him as a royal kshathriya. Then Uloopi went there and encouraged Babhruvaahana to fight his father. When Arjuna fell dead on the ground severely hit by Babhruvaahana's shots, Uloopi brought the divine gem from paathaalam and vivified Arjuna.

Uloopi disappeared into the river ganga after Arjuna went on renunciation.
