DEDICATED TO MY DEAR NIECE VYSHNAVI KRISHNA

SURATHA

( The TH in this name is pronounced hard like 'th' in 'thing'. ) She was the first wife of king Viraata of the Mathsya country. After her death , Viraata married Chitra, also called Sudeshna, daughter of the sootha king Kekaya of Kekaya country.

There were some male characters named Suratha in the Mahaabhaaratham, whose names are spelt Suratha too.

One fighter named Suratha of the Paandavas side was mentioned by Bheeshma while grading the warriors, in Udyoga parva.

Correct reference should be understood only from the context.

"After praying to Naaraayana, Nara, Sarasvathi and Vyaasa, then one should read the Jayam."
