SHYLAALAYA

(The 'sh' inthis name is pronounced like one between 's' in sun' and 'sh' in 'shut'. The L's arepronounced like 'l' in 'lip'. The first Y is a vowel sound like 'y' in 'my'. The last Y is pronounced like 'y' in 'you'. )

Shylaalaya was a sage who formerly had been a king of Praagjyothisha city. He was grand-father of Bhagadaththa, one of thr heroes of Mahaabhaaratham war on the kouravas side.father.

When Dhritharaashtra retired to the forests , he settled at Shathayoopa's hermitage who administerd him into the order of hermits. Naarada talked to Dhritharaashtra about Shathayoopa and his grand-father Sahasrachithya. In the same context, he mentioned about Shylaalaya as one of such hermits who successfully performed penances in that area of hermitages. Naarada also mentioned two other sages Prishadhra and Shashiloma who were earlier kings but turned hermits whose penance made them earn higher abodes.
