SHAKAS

( The SH in this name is is pronounced like one between the 's' in sun' and 'sh' in 'shut'. The last s shows plural number, as a race or province is generally referred in plural number. )

shakas were people of one of the many races mentioned in Mahaabhaaratham. They were primely of the regions to the wetern most provinces and beyond.

Shakas were also one of the invaders from western front since long time many centuries ago. It is said that king Vikrama drove the Shakas out of India and established the river Sindhu as border for them. He was hailed as Shakaari, meaning enemy or slayer of Shakas.

In the later periods, all the people belonging to those countries are generally termed Yavanas.
