SAHYA

Sahya is one of the importaint mountains in India. From this mount, the river Krishna originates.

The Indian mythology names eight ( some say seven ) such prime mountains which were believed to bear the earth's weight ( i.e. hold it together). They were

  4. Neela
  5. Svetha
  6. Shringi
  7. Maalyavan
  8. Gandhamaadana
.

Occasionally, many hills and mountains were mentioned in the epic . Some of them are - Paariyaathra,Sahya,Vindhya,Thrikoota,Svetha, Bhaasa, Koshthavaan, Guruskandha, Mahendra. Munjavaan and Maalyavaan are mentioned in Ashvamedha parva. Many more uccur too at many other places. But, we cannot now recognise or locate some of them with these names.
