PANCHANADAM

( The N in this name is pronounced like 'n' in 'pun'. The CH is pronounced like 'ch'in 'much'. The second N is pronounced like 'n' in 'nut' . The D is pronounced like 'th'in 'brother'.)

Panchanadam is the name of a prominent and well nourished rich region at the time of Mahaabhaaratham. The literal meaning of the word is 'area of five rivers'. This immediately flashes Punjaab or Paancaalam to our mind, since Punjaab is also a rich region od five rivers. But, as Paanchaalam was then its name, and as the Paanchaala king Drupada himself mentioned the kings of Panchanadas among other rulers, Punjaab could be different from this.

The rulers Panchanadas are mentioned in Udyoga parva. Panchanadam is mentioned in Mousala parva. It was there that Abheeras attacked Arjuna and looted his convoy of Dvaaraka citizens. Again, Ashvamesha parva mentions that Arjuna passed through Panchanadam after Dvaaraka and before Gaandhaara.

This location suggests that the Panchanadam may not be present Punjaab, probably.
