PAATHAALAM

( The TH in this name is pronounced like 'th' in 'with' and L is pronounced like 'l' in 'girl'.)

Paathaalam is last of the underworlds. Our mythology says that there are fourteen worlds in this universe. Seven are named upper worlds and the other seven are known as lower worlds. The details are as following. In many contexts, Rasaathalam is used to refer to Paathaalam. Also, Rasaathalam means'earth' too.

"After praying to Naaraayana, Nara, Sarasvathi and Vyaasa, then one should read the Jayam."
