She is one of the six principal deities worshipped in our country. Juas as Vishnu and Shiva, she too is worshipped with her thousand epithets. She is variously known as Paarvathi, Aparna, Shiva, shivaani, Shakthi, Shyaamala, Durga,Amba etc. She killed many demons like, Shumbha, Nishumbha,Rakthabeeja,Nahusha,Chanda,Munda etc. . The Brahmanda-puraanam and Deveebhaagavatham describe her powers elabourately . Her carrier is a lion. Kumaara and Vinaayaka are her sons, both beeing importantly worshipped gods. Writing a brief about her is impossible, as a huge book need be written to touch all things about her. Majority of the worship of Mother-God revolves around her.
