NAARADA

(Also, see the link 'thumburu'.)

( The N in this name is pronounced like 'n'in 'not'. R is a consonant. D is pronounced like 'th' in 'brother' .)

(Another person with the name Naarada was mentioned in Udyoga parva , by Naarada himself. As he was said to have enjoyed a long time with some Sathyavathi, he could not be this sage Naarada.)

A divine sage. Son of creator Brahma himself. Known for his wisdom, knowledge and devotion to lord Vishnu. He is considered to be the best musician too. His harp is named Mahathi. Parvatha and Thumburu are his associates. He taught the right wisdom and true knowledge to many eligible persons like Prahlaada, Dhruva, Vaalmeeki, Vyaasa etc.

It is often mentioned, in a lighter vein, that he is fond of creating quarrels or fightings among people, hence an epithet to hiim is 'kalaha-bhojana' which means 'one subsisting on quarrels'. It is so quite often but all such created quarrels lead those people involved in them to realisation.

Naarada is often mentioned together with Thumburu, a Gandharva, as a master of music. Aaadi Parva describes that Naarada and Thumburu both sang music along with a score of Gandharvas at the time of Arjuna's birth. He is a prime role in many of the epical and puranical episodes. He comes on many occasions in the story of Mahaabhaaratham. His details can be seen in the first book of Mahaabhaagavatham.
