KURU

The word Kuru is referred to in two different senses. It means the name of a province ruled by Kuru dynasty. It is also the name of a king by whose name the dynasty and the region Kurukshethram, both derived their names. Very often, the kings of this dynasty, the family members of the ruling king and all their kinsmen in general, were referred to as Kurus.

Kuru was the land that was ruled by the ancestors of Paandavas and Kouravas.

This was located in northern India on the banks of river Yamuna around present Haryana and Delhi.

There was a ruler named Kuru in the dynasty too, on whose name the vast ground Kurukshethram was known. This was the field for the war of Mahaabhaaratham.

To add to the list, a sage was also named Kuru, who was mentioned in shaanthi parva, while listing the sages that were with Bheeshma during his last days. on the arrow bed.
