Kekaya was the name of a king of a country termed sootha which later became to be known as Kekaya country after his name.

Kekaya was father of Keechaka and Sudeshna. Sudeshna was given in marriage to king Virata of the Mathsya country after the latter lost his queen Suratha.

In the Raamayana too, one of the principal wives of Dasharatha, namely Kykayi or kykeyi, was said to be the daughter of the Kekaya king. We cannot be sure if these two were reffered to the same lineage.
