KANKA

Kanka was Yudhishthira's adopted name during his exile incognito at Viraata's.

He adopted the attire of a young Braahmana and requested kimg Viraata for a place in his court for a period of one year. He introduced himself as an erstwile courtier of Yudhishthira. He entertained Viraata with the game of dice and discussions on various subjects of interest.

He kept Bheema under control and reprimanded Droupadi too for being insensible in the open court in the issue of Keechaka, fearing their disclosure. He was aware that their term was over when Arjuna followed Uththara to the southern front war. He helped Viraata win the Thrigarthas in the first atack on the northern front . He talked against the king's will in favour of Brihannala, seemingly disparaging the prince Uththara's valour. That brought him a good hit on the forehead with the dice by the king. Even bleeding, he held himself calm and collected. He later allowed themelves to disclose in a grand manner by sitting on the throne the next morning, by the time the king entered the court hall.

"After praying to Naaraayana, Nara, Sarasvathi and Vyaasa, then one should read the Jayam."
