Drona parva is the seventh of the 18 main parvas. This parva vividly describes the course of war from its 11 th day to 15 th day under Drona's command, till his end in the war.
This phase of the war showed the culmination of the usage of asthras, as the principal instructor of warfare to many stalwarts on either side was himself in the command on the Kourava side. Valour took its best heights but respect to war laws began to fade off.
These five days of war witnessed fall of elegant warriors like Sathyajith, Sooryadaththa, Bhagadaththa with his celebrated elephant Supratheeka,many of Samshapthakas, Lakshmana, Abhimanyu, Jayadratha, Bhurishravas, Somadaththa, Baahlika, demon Alambusa, demon Ghatothkacha, demon Alaayudha, innumerable Paanchaalas, Viraata, Drupada, Drona himself and many of the kourava brothers. Bheema almost killed Karna on one occassion.
It was in this period that Karna insulted Bheema and Sahadeva in the war but spared their lives to keep his word given to his mother Kunthi.
It was also during this period of the war that many war rules were broken with impunity. That tendancy increased further towards the end and sleeping people were also ruthlessly massacared .
