BHAGADATHTHA

( the BH in this name is pronounced like a hard sound of B in 'but', G like G in 'gun, D like TH in 'brother' and the two 'TH's like 'TH' in 'with'.)

Bhagadaththa was the ruler of Praagjyothisham . He was son of Naraka, whom Krishna killed long before the great war.

Bhagadaththa was a great fighter, though he was very old at the time of the war. He fought on the kouravas' side. Mounted on his celebrated elephant Supratheekam, he ran havoc in paandavas' forces. Once he rebuffed the demon Ghatothkacha's attacks too. On the twelfth day of the war, he attacked Arjuna with his famous Vyshnava asthra. Knowing that that asthra was otherwise impossible to be faced, Krishna intercepted its path with his body , where it fell like a garland. An astonished Bhagadaththa, along with his terrible tusker, was killed by Arjuna .

After the war was over, Paandavas undertook a horse-sacrifice ie Ashvamedham. On that occasion, Arjuna walked behind the horse guarding it. At Praagjyothisham city, Bhagadaththa's son Vajradaththa fought with Arjuna for three days, as fiercely as his father. But, later, he was tamed by Arjuna with a thorough defeat.

King drupada mentioned names of many kings from whom paandavas should seek help. One among them was Bhagadaththa. It is not sure if it could be this Bhagadaththa or some other king with the same name.
