"After praying to Naaraayana, Nara, Sarasvathi and Vyaasa, then one should read the Jayam."

DEDICATED TO MY DEAR NIECE VYSHNAVI KRISHNA

B A A N A

(The N in this name is pronounced like 'n' in 'turn'.)

Baana was a demon who took birth as keechaka or Simhabala, the brother-in-law of king viraata.

Of course, there was another demon king Baana with a thousand hands, who was famous for making lord Shiva guard his city. Krishna fought with him to release his grandson Aniruddha from the latter's prison and cut off all but four of the thousand hands.

"After praying to Naaraayana, Nara, Sarasvathi and Vyaasa, then one should read the Jayam."
