AADITHYAS

(The D in this name is pronounced like 'th' in 'this'. The TH is pronounced like 'th' in 'with'. The last S indicates plural number. )

Aadithyas are a batch of gods. They live in the heaven along with other groups of gods. The word 'Aadithya' means 'god' in general but means 'Sun' in particular. The Sun God is considered to be of twelve forms, assuming one in each month of the year.

Aadithyas are twelve in number. Kashyapa and Adithi are their parents. The names of aadithyas are
1. Dhaatha, 2.Mithra, 3.Aryama, 4.Shakra, 5.Varuna, 6.Amshu, 7.Bhaga, 8.Vivasvaan, 9.Poosha, 10.Savitha, 11.Thvashta and 12.Vishnu .

Observe that the Lord of the South direction is also named Varuna. And also, the names Mithra, Aryama, Vivasvaan, Poosha and Savitha refer in general to the Sun God.
